Morehouse, J. (2011). Students dig up dirt to learn about internet safety. Learning and Leading with Technology, 39(2), 34-35. Retrieved from http://www.learningandleading-digital.com/learning_leading/20110910?pg=36
Summary: After reading the article "Students Dig Up Dirt to Learn About Safety" by Jesse Morehouse from Learning and Leading with Technology I immediately logged onto my Facebook to check the privacy settings on my account. I found it very interesting to learn that there can be true and also false information available for others to search about you on the web. The scary thing is that this information whether it is true or false may determine your acceptance to a job or program or like the article said even finding a date! Most students are not concerned and don't even think twice when they post something onto a blog or social network. It is important to make everyone aware of the consequences of posting the wrong things. I definitely feel that this technology information about internet safety is very important for parents to be aware of. Most of the time students know more about technology then their parents and it is important for a parent to know what their child is doing every time they access a computer.
Questions:
What technology does the school provide for the classroom, and how will the teacher use it?
Internet connected devices today range from your standard desktop computer to SmartBoards and iPads. Schools also use web based educational programs such as enVison, or PBS. It is important to ask how the technology will be used in the lesson plan, and if you have questions about the educational value of something, like YouTube, ask why it’s being included.
What are the social-networking rules regarding student/teacher interaction?
Many teachers use Facebook and other social networks to connect to students and make themselves available for questions, while others do not allow such connections.Using Twitter is also a great social network to be able to share important and useful publications and information. Other programs such as Google documents can help students to work collaboratively. Just be aware of what activities your student is engaging when accessing any social network for educational purposes,

Journal #2
Ferguson, H. (2010). Join the flock. Learning and Leading with Technology, 37(8), 12-15. Retrieved from http://www.learningandleading-digital.com/learning_leading/20100607?pg=14&pm=2&fs=1#pg14
The article written by Hadley Ferguson titled "Join the Flock!" is very informative for anyone seeking information on social networking. Specifically this article focuses on one social network, Twitter. As a requirement for EDUC-422 every student created their own Twitter account. I had previous knowledge of what Twitter was, but never intended on using it especially as an educational tool. After reading this article you learn useful knowledge about the network. You learn what a PLN is, which "is a community of individuals around the world who are learning together. They can start out as strangers, people you couldn't pick out in a crowded room. But Twitter helps these strangers come together to create a community built on communication and collaboration dedicated to making learning and education the best it can be. Setting up my account was easy. As a class we now follow each other and share useful links and information by incorporating a has-tag to our group which is, #ed422. I created this personalized lists through my twitter account and that's the specific people I choose to follow. I found some of the Twitter twerminology to be creative and interesting.
Question 1: How is Twitter useful for teachers and students?
As we are experiencing the positive attributes that twitter contributes to the classroom, more than one aspect comes to my mind. It is a basic way to share with followers useful information, but it is also a great way to find answers. I like that when one of my classmates has a question on a specific assignment from class, and asks the teacher via twitter all viewers will be able to see the question and later the answer when the teacher responds. It is a fast way because most people have their smart phone set up to send tweets as a text. It is a fast way to be able to communicate with a group of people, or within a classroom atmosphere. Shannon McClintock describes tools that can be used as a twitter organizer such as Tweetdeck. I have yet to install tweetdeck onto my desktop, but after reading this article I see that it can be a very useful tool. It allows you to open as many columns as you want, and ou can delete them at anytime. The first thing I will d after writing this post is download the Tweetdeck app to my phone so I can personally explore its tool as an organizer.
Question 2: How often should I check my twitter account?
If you are not receiving notifications onto your smart phone from post on your twitter, it is important to check your account on a regular basis. Information can pile up and you will have to go back through cyber space time and make sure you did not miss viewing something that could have been important or useful. I recommend logging on daily, for all students and teachers who use this as a means of communication in a classroom, such as we do for EDUC 422...

Technology Self-Assessment~School 2.0 NETS-T V.
The technology self-assessment assignment will help me engage in using various technology tools that will improve my professional practice. After searching through various links on the website I later looked into another teachers blog who shares information on free tools and great websites that any one can access to help incorporate technology into the learning environment. Using this technology assessment i am engaging in professional growth and leadership skills "(NETS-T 5).
For my Reflection results I chose to look into the section for NETS-T Module: Engage in Professional Growth and Leadership(NETS-T V)... I then decided to explore a link from the resources titled Tech:)HappyHappy Musings About Educational Technology.
The author of the blog site is Keith Farrell a teacher who has integrated technology in his lesson plan curriculum. This blog was created partly as a personal reflection of things that went well and things that can be learned from during Keith’s daily lessons; and also as a resource portal for teachers from around the world.
The cite utilizes technology and provides its viewers with many different teaching tools for teachers and students. It discussed some interesting apps that a teacher can download to use technology as an affective teaching method for studying vocabulary and what not.
One of the cites that Keith blogs about was: Study Jams has a fun selection of animated videos to help students with math and science concepts such as multiplication and division, algebra, fractions, geometry, landforms, solar system, matter, energy, light and sound, force and motion, animals, and much more.
I found his blog to be very interesting as well as informational for teachers and students. If you would like the link to his site I have added it here: http://edtechideas.com/

HELLO CLASS!!!
My name is Emily Kathryn Snow...
I was born in California but moved to Florida around the age of 3 when my parents divorced. I have been back and forth between the two states my whole life and would like to consider myself bi-coastal. I come from a large family with 8 siblings, 4 of us whom are girls, and 4 who are boys. My brother Patrick died as an infant, so only 7 of us are living. I am a transfer student from MSJC where I achieved the degree of Associate of Arts in Liberal Arts with an emphasis in Arts and Humanities. I am currently in the ICP program here at CSUSM where I hope to excel and achieve my B.A as well as my teaching credentials so I can stop waiting tables and begin my career as a teacher. I currently work as a waitress at Acapulco Mexican Restaurant y Cantina located in Restaurant Row. You can find me there 6 days a week when I am not here on campus.
I intend on trying out for the girls Lacrosse club this year, so if their is anyone else involved in the club let me know we can practice together... I am new to the area and look forward to making new friends from class and on campus. I have a strong feeling that this class will be one of my favorite classes from the first impression I made during our first session. My father is a total tech geek so fortunately for me, I consider myself pretty computer and technology savvy. If I don't know how to do something I can usually figure it out pretty quickly.
The part of the Mission statement for the College of Education Community that impacts me the most is, "to collaboratively transform public education..." Many of my previous teachers taught me to love to learn new things and I will forever be grateful that I love to learn and hope to install that same feeling into all of my future students.
I have many hobbies. I like going to the beach and surfing as well as playing in the sand. I like all out door sports from hiking and camping to biking, skating, kayaking etc. I am pretty much an out doors tom-boy type of girl, but I like girly things too. I look forward to this semester and getting to know every body. Well that is just some little tid-bits about me, now it's my turn to go read about you! See you in class!!!
